MotoGP Assen: Rossi, Lorenzo split on new exhaust system

Movistar Yamaha team-mates Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo are split on a new exhaust system which they have both been given to use this weekend after testing at Barcelona and Motorland Aragon.

Rossi has decided not to use the new system as although it gives more power at the bottom of the rev range, it takes away too much at the top which Lorenzo, who has some reservations, says he will run it as it is better than the old one overall.

“We try the new exhaust in Barcelona and also in Aragon. For me, is not a big difference, something better, something worse but the problem for me is very difficult to ride with two different pipes in the practice, so I think tomorrow I will ride with the standard,” said Rossi, speaking at the track.

“Yamaha try to work with the pipes to have a different engine character and have more power from the bottom but we lose something at the top for me. Jorge like a lot and he will use but I prefer to go with the standard.

Lorenzo added: “I have some positive things and some negative things. For the moment, it seems it is a little better in general so that’s why we are using it. We would like to compare in another track but yes we will probably race it.”
