Movistar Yamaha’s Valentino Rossi topped the third MotoGP free practice at Assen this morning in a session that started off wet but dried out enough for some riders to do some meaningful work.
Rossi put in a 1’34.650 on his last flying lap and he was chased by the Go&Fun Honda of Alvaro Bautista. The Spaniard was looking to squeeze into the top ten and automatically go through to the second qualifying session but just didn’t make it.
Bautista ended 11th on the combined sheet and he will now have to join Cal Crutchlow in qualifying one to fight for a space in the final timed session. Scott Redding is also in that scrap and is currently quicker than the Ducati man.
Marc Marquez, Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa didn’t bother to go out on track while yesterday’s fastest man Aleix Espargaro did three flying laps early on wet tyres with a fastest of 1’52.577.
