Monster Yamaha’s Bradley Smith has likened today’s Assen MotoGP qualifying session to a load of men looking at one girl in a nightclub and waiting for someone else to make a move.
The British rider said he should have ridden smarter in the session but still managed to bag a second-row start for tomorrow’s race.
“That was the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life. We were like a group of ten guys checking out one girl in a nightclub, all looking at each other and waiting to see who was going to make the move,” said Smith, speaking at the track.
“I have never ridden so slowly to finish sixth. It wasn’t even that bad. Aleix made the perfect plan, he waited but even he was held up and rode the last sector with his hand up.
“We all just looked at each other way too much. Opportunity missed, I suppose. I thought I was being smart and rolled off because I see no-one was going fast.
“On the second lap, everybody rolled off to 43s and then I caught everyone in the last two sectors. If it had been in a nightclub, I would have gone straight in!”
