Ducati MotoGP boss says new engine is first step forward

Ducati Corse MotoGP boss Gigi Dall’Igna has said the first step for his team into 2015 will be a new engine that should debut at the post-season Valencia test, although it will not be a radical departure.

But Dall’Igna has said some small improvements will be brought in before then including some new electronic software which was tested at Barcelona and then a new, more aerodynamic fairing a Brno.

“The first step is the engine and we hope to have it for the post-Valencia race test. It will still be a 90 degree engine, but will be smaller, will allow for better set-up and for us to get more from the tyres,” said Dall’Igna.

“At Sachsenring we are going to use new software which we tested in Barcelona. Then after Brno we’ll have a new fairing, because although aerodynamics are not as crucial in motorcycle racing as F1 it still plays a role.”

Cal Crutchlow has said that aerodynamics are a problem for him because of his short but wide build so it is hoped that the new fairing will go someway to help the Briton.
