MotoGP Indy: Season best qualifying for Redding

Go&Fun Honda’s Scott Redding recorded his best MotoGP qualifying result of the season so far with an 11th place at Indianaplolis despite losing the business end of half a second along the start/finish straight.

Redding’s underpowered production Honda is also struggling on the other, shorter, straight but the Gloucestershire rider says he can make that back by pushing hard in the corners - especially in sector two where he has been almost as quick as Marc Marquez.

“Qualifying was good as I got into Q2 for the first time this year and I am happy with that. I improve my laptime again when I went back out so we’re really happy so far. We are a bit concerned about the front tyre as after five laps we’re getting a lot of movement but we will look at that,” said Redding, speaking at the track.

“At the moment I am pushing so hard in the corners to catch these guys that I am on the limit with the front tyre. It’s going to be a difficult race, I think around 12th should be the area and maybe if a couple of guys are battling we can jump to the next group but the long straight is costing us 0.4s.

“When I am following people, I always catch them through sectors two and three, it’s four and one on the straight where we lose and even from two to three on that straight I am losing a tenth but I can get that back by pushing hard.”
