MotoGP Silverstone: Moto2 third row start for Lowes

Speed Up’s Sam Lowes will start the Moto2 race at his home track of Silverstone from the third row, after his best lap of a 2’08.014 was good enough to place him seventh on the starting grid, during qualifying.

Pole position eventually went to AirAsia Caterham’s Johann Zarco, who bagged his maiden number one start in the class, with a 2’07.094. The Frenchman was a tenth under lap record pace, and was a massive four tenths off the second quickest time – which was set by Marc VDS Racing’s Mika Kallio. NGM Forward Racing’s Simone Corsi completed the front row.

The Kallio was two tenths quicker than his team-mate and rival Rabat, who finds himself fourth on the grid. Meanwhile Lowes will share the third row with Vinales and Cortese.

The Derby based rider, and former World Supersport champion was as high as fifth during the 45 minute qualfiyng outing, but couldnt keep up with the pace of the leading trio, and when the chequered flag appeared at the side of the historic track Lowes found himself on the third row.

British rider, AGT’s Gino Rea will start the race tomorrow with 26th on the grid, after he could only muster a 2’09.134. Veteran wildcard participant, Jeremy McWilliams appeared to have a technical problem out on track, onboard his Brough Superior Racing bike, and didn’t set a qualifying time.
