Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez had to fight hard with Movistar Yamaha’s Jorge Lorenzo for the MotoGP win at Silverstone this afternoon, and the young superstar didn’t expect his rival to be so fast.
Lorenzo got a near perfect start and Marquez was chasing his tail up until the 13th lap of the race. In the end it went down to the final rotation with both bikes nearly colliding with each other out on the historic circuit.
Marquez had to push hard to over throw his fellow compatriot and in the end only 0.7 seconds separated the pair, as the Honda lad crossed the line to clinch the victory, and prevented Lorenzo from doing the double at the track.
“I didn’t expect Jorge to ride like that, and he was so strong from the beginning. I tried to be gentle with the tyres, but in the second part of the race my rhythm was slightly better and I tried to overtake him and then I made a mistake then I came back ,and it is good to get the win,” said Marquez, at the circuit.
“He was much stronger and he has improved, but in the end we were able to fight with him, and it was nice after Brno to come back with a win, but I was surprised with how fast he was, I didn’t expect it. I had to push 100 percent, and I had to concentrate the whole time.”
