Speed Up’s Sam Lowes achieved a career-best result Moto2 race at Phillip Island’s MotoGP round, crossing the line in fifth place and only missing the podium by two seconds.
Making a strong start, Lowes latched on to the back of the leading five riders and comfortably ran in the top four for a large part of the race. Unfortunately his front tyre dropped off in the closing stages with the 24-year-old nearly losing the front on numerous occasions.
“I’m really pleased with today’s result, we ran at the front and I felt really confident of getting on the podium but in the last three laps we struggled with the front tyre and nearly lost the front,” said Lowes.
“Fifth is a mega result, my best in Moto2, and I’m really happy with how things have gone with the team in the last few races. Things are starting to look up so we should be able to finish the season on a high, hopefully on the podium.”
