MotoGP Sepang test: Engine still too aggressive - Marquez

Honda’s new engine specification debuted today at the Sepang MotoGP test is still too aggressive for former champion Marc Marquez and he says there is a lot of work to do.

The Spaniard, who finished some 1.6s down on Jorge Lorenzo on the timesheets, said that work needs to be done on corner exit and also on electronics but trying to fix an engine problem with the unified software will be difficult as it is much less sophisticated than proprietary systems.

“We try the 2016 engine with some modifications and it was better in some points but still we have a lot of job to do for try to improve the acceleration out of the corner. We are trying to find how to fix all the aspects but at the moment where we must concentrate more in the electronics side,” said Marquez, speaking at Sepang.

“We are far from the best laptimes and far from Jorge, so we must find our rhythm and also we will try to work on the setup as we didn’t do that today. With the character of the engine, I didn’t feel comfortable and it looks like we have to work. The small modifications are inside the engine. The connection with the throttle is better but we must work to find a better acceleration.

“We will try and fix with electronics but if you cut power, you lose time and if you put power it is aggressive with a lot of movement so we are trying to find the best compromise.”
