MotoGP Qatar: Marquez confident of podium shot

Repsol Honda’s Marc Marquez believes that after some setup changes to his RC213V during today’s second MotoGP free practice session he is in with a shot at the podium on Sunday - something he didn’t think was possible two weeks ago.

The former champion says he has got back his good feeling and confidence in the Repsol-backed bike, and it showed in his laptimes in both session today as he finished third on the combined timesheets, 0.059s behind title rival Jorge Lorenzo.

“I am happy because more than the laptime we come back with a good feeling on the bike. Yesterday, we had a few problems but today in FP2 I feel like the test which is a big step already and then we start to find the good setup for the race,” said Marquez, speaking at the track.

“The rhythm is good, so that is important. We are losing a lot in sector four but we know so we will try tomorrow. I’m happy to be in QP2 because if two weeks ago you said that to me, I would have said maybe.

“Tomorrow we must continue to improve our pace and we have to decide which front and rear tyre to use. From there, we will see if we can take another step forward. We are not far from the fight for the podium.”
