MotoGP Le Mans: Moto2 pole for Luthi, third row start for Lowes

Garage Plus Interwetten’s Thomas Luthi will start from the number one spot on the grid for the Moto2 race at Le Mans on Sunday. The Swiss rider lapped a 1’36.847 to soar to his fourth pole position in the class.

Luthi shares the front row with Alex Rins, who’s 1’36.899 was good enough for P2, but was 0.05s slower than the pole-setter. Lorenzo Baldassarri was one happy rider this afternoon after he made it on to the front row the first time in his Moto2 career, and the Italian narrowly missed out on a time inside the 1’36’s by two tenths of a second.

Championship leader, Sam Lowes was unable to improve on his 1’37.396 rotation and founds himself on the third row in P9. The Gresini rider shares row three with Tech3’s newest recruit for MotoGP 2017, Jonas Folger. The rider crashed at Museum inside the first ten minutes, but he did make it back out.

Row two is made up of Speed Up Racing’s Simone Corsi, local French rider, Johann Zarco, who crashed unhurt at turn 4, and Marc VDS’s Franco Morbidelli. Britain’s Danny Kent will start from 21st on the grid after a 1’38.281 lap.
