Petronas SRT Yamaha MotoGP rider Fabio Quartararo held off Maverick Vinales to take the top spot through combined free practice on the final Friday of 2019 at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia.
After topping the morning FP1 session, Quartararo spent the majority of the afternoon session working on race pace for his satellite M1, before sticking some fresh tyres on his bike to shoot himself to the top of the timing sheets.
It was similar for fellow Yamaha rider Vinales, who was up the sharp end of the field through the session, before fresh tyres at the end pushing himself ahead of World Champion Marc Marquez, who ended the session third on his Repsol Honda after spending most of the session fastest.
Jack Miller was top Ducati in fourth place, as the Aussie continues the good form that has seen rumours of a switch with Danilo Petrucci for 2020 working their way around the paddock. Franco Morbidelli was fifth with Suzuki duo Alex Rins and Joan Mir in sixth and seventh place respectively.
Aleix Espargaro was eighth on his Aprilia, just ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, whose session was interrupted when the Italian was sprayed by a liquid from his own bike. Johann Zarco was tenth as he continues to cover for Take Nakagami in the final provision Q2 spot.
Cal Crutchlow ended the session in eleventh one spot behind his temporary team-mate, just ahead of the Ducati duo of Petrucci and Michele Pirro.
It was another tough session for Valentino Rossi who was fourteenth after suffering his second crash of the day, losing the front end of his Monster Energy Yamaha at turn ten, leaving his mechanics with a busy Friday evening.
