As the races click down on what has been a strange but highly-entertaining MotoGP season, the grid for next season is close to being complete.
Only Aprilia, LCR Honda and Esponsorama Ducati* have riders left to confirm with rumours circulating around the latter as to whether they will be in it at all.
Incumbent Tito Rabat has a deal with them and Moto2 star Enea Bastianini has a contract with Ducati to be in MotoGP for 2021, so they need a team in which to place him after filling up the Pramac seats.
Aprilia are waiting on the result of the CAS cogitations over Andrea Iannone. If it turns out he isn’t banned after all, he has a contract with the team for 2021 which they will more than likely honour. If it goes the other way, Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso are waiting in the wings.
If Dovizioso gets the nod, it’s likely Crutchlow will retire although the WorldSBK rumour will not go away no matter how many times he says he isn’t interested. If Crutchlow is picked, Dovizioso will more than likely take a testing role with either Yamaha or Honda.
Taka Nakagami, as always, is still wrangling with HRC but as he has been the leading Honda rider since Jerez, he should be on the latest-spec RCV in 2021.
