BRAND NEW RULES FOR BRITISH SUPERBIKES IN 2010

Next year's British Superbike Championship will see a two-tier set of technical regulations which bring in a brand new set of rules designed to encourage more teams on the grid with stock engines and spec-ECUs in Superbike chassis.

Called Superbike Evo, the bikes will run totally stock, road-going motors coupled with full Superbike chassis and will replace the current Superbike Cup class. However, for next year all teams will also be allowed to run the current FIM Superbike rules.

The engines will all be given spec-ECUs which will eliminate the use of expensive and complicated electronics packages in order to keep costs down. It is believed this could cut costs by £400,000 per year in parts alone.

In addition, all teams will only be allowed to run one bike per rider and it is thought, at the moment, the current three-day format and 12-round schedule will be maintained due to sponsor and contractural agreements.

There is also a rumour that Alastair Seeley will be on an Evo-spec Relentless Suzuki at the Silverstone BSB round.
