Danny Buchan will not race motorbikes in 2025 as he announces his immediate retirement from racing.
On Sunday evening Danny Buchan took to social media to announce his retirement from motorbike racing. After a difficult few years with injuries, Buchan has decided it is time to 'close the curtain' on his 25-year career.
Buchan made his British Superbike debut in 2012 as a replacement rider for the MSS Bathams Kawasaki squad. The 2013 season saw Buchan compete in seven races before moving to the Superstock 1000 class.
Across his time in British Superbikes Buchan has ridden for Be Wiser Kawasaki, Paul Bird Motorsport, Moto Rapido, FS-3 Racing, SYNETIQ BMW Motorrad, and DAO Racing Kawasaki.
Throughout his 12 years in British Superbikes Buchan won six races and stood on a further 17 podiums. As well as his success in British Superbikes Buchan also won two British Superstock 1000 Championships in 2014 and 2017.
In his announcement, Buchan said: "2024 will be my last season racing motorcycles. I am closing the curtain on my 25-year-long career. My body is smashed and it wants/needs looking after, life is long after racing!!
"One day I will talk about it all, my journey but for now I want to say thank you to everyone who helped me live out my boyhood dream. I mean being paid to race motorcycles, how cool is that? And I’ve been rewarded with a good life and base to start life after racing.
"I can’t begin to tell you how many life lessons I have learned along the way which will enable me to go on and be great, the people I have been lucky enough to meet and friends I have made for life who really have become family. I really mean it I am grateful."
