JG Speedfit Kawasaki's Joe Burns took his third Pirelli National Superstock 1000 podium of the season at Knockhill over the weekend, cementing his second position overall in the championship table and closing the gap to just fourteen points behind leader SMT Racing’s Adam Jenkinson.
Burns made a solid start moving up to fourth place at the second corner in the feature race. Rapido Sport’s Tristan Palmer also got away well and took a lead which he proceeded to extend, whilst Burns, Jenkinson and Homer Racing’s Hudson Kennaugh fought over second position.
On lap two Burns moved up to third and then took second place on lap eight, he then proceeded to hunt down Palmer who was 1.8 seconds ahead. Burn was taking a tenth of a second a lap out of the lead, closing to within half a second by lap seventeen. But the race was red flagged a lap later, ending the Geordie riders' shot for his first win of the season.
“It was disappointing that the red flag came out. I felt really good and was closing down Tristan, I think he was struggling with tyre wear, but my JG Speedfit Kawasaki was just mega and I think I could have taken my first win of the season,” said Burns.
