Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki’s Shane Byrne’s consistent good form put him in good stead at Knockhill today as the triple champ came away with two MCE British Superbike race victories.

The rider was able to get the better of Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes in race one, with the Lambeth racer making a move on the Aussie with three laps remaining. Byrne led from the start in the final race of the day and was able to get a one second lead, over the rest of the pack, and again, was able to hold the charge posed by Brookes.

But the rider said consistency and the fact he was comfortable on the bike was crucial to him clinching a double podium, but he does appreciate how hard Brookes worked to challenge him for the win this afternoon.

“I had a good start and built up a nice gap and was really comfortable, and I was making a big point of trying to maintain 48 second lap times in race two. But after ten or twelve laps the tyres dropped off a bit and it gave me a few little moments, so I thought I would knock it down a peg or two,” said Byrne.

“But the gap was two seconds after lap 20, so I thought I would keep my laps consistent, and I thought I am safe here. I knew Josh was catching up with me, but I thought he would do an incredible job to close the gap. But all credit it to him as a few of his laps towards the end were fast ones.

“But I don’t want to sound big headed but it was kind of calculated as my last lap was 49.1 just because I saw the gap come down that last little bit and I thought I would push for the last lap and fortunately it was enough. So I got a double win, both of them for my wife, and now I am looking forward to Snetterton.

“This race I dedicate to my wife who is in a bit of a bad way so hopefully this cheers her up. I knew I could pick up the pace at the end of the race one too, and went past Josh and just tried to be consistent. All credit to my team really to get us into a race winning bike.”
