Acosta challenging at the top already in Moto2 testing

Moto3 Champion Pedro Acosta showcased formidable form at Circuito do Jerez - Angel Nieto this week as the KTM star impressed on the Moto2.

As the private preseason testing came to a conclusion at the Andalusian circuit, last year’s rookie sensation looked to be continuing the trend as he got to grips with his new intermediate class machine from the top of the unofficial standings.

Concluding the two days on track second in the combined times, the 17-year-old dispatched 149 laps aboard the Red Bull KTM Ajo Moto2 bike as he acquainted himself with the Triumph engine, completing the test with a 1’41.354 fastest effort and leading the way in Thursday’s running. Just 0.003s separated him from Honda Team Asia rider Ai Ogura overall.

Three days of Official Moto2 and Moto3 testing are set to commence on Saturday at Portugal’s Algarve International Circuit, ahead of the opening race of the season in two weeks time.

“It’s been a good day and, in general, a great test,” Acosta confirmed from Spain. “We made lots of laps because it was important to understand in what I was improving or not.

“The change to the Moto2 bike has been very positive, I had lots of fun and I can feel the change in the tyre, bike size and, more importantly, the speed. This year we are not setting any objective, so in Portimao we will continue with our philosophy of having fun each time we go out on track.”
