Alex Marquez reflects on a 'super special weekend' in Thailand

Gold & Goose

The Thai Grand Prix was a 'super special weekend' for the Marquez family with Alex and Marc featuring on the podium.

The Marquez family stole all of the headlines at the Thai Grand Prix as they dominated the proceedings throughout the weekend.

Marc Marquez may have secured pole position and won the Sprint Race and Grand Prix. But his little brother Alex Marquez was a consistent runner up throughout the weekend.

The younger Marquez brother qualified in second, then finished the Sprint Race and Grand Prix in second.

"I am super happy about the weekend overall," Alex Marquez said on TNT Sports.

"I said yesterday that tomorrow will be the important day for us, and we did it. We were 1-2, 1-2, and 1-2, which is amazing and a super special weekend for the whole family.

"I felt before the race that Marc [Marquez] had something more than me. But Pecco [Bagnaia] too, so for that reason I tried to attack in the first laps to put some metres there.

"Maybe I used too much energy there, but when I was leading I used all my energy there, not my one the tyre one. At the end I was really on the limit.

"These are the races that you are gifted in MotoGP, I was leading and had the pace so I am super happy."

Marquez led the Thai Grand Prix for the majority of the race after his older brother slotted into second. When riding at the front with his brother behind him he was trying not to override his bike.

"I was trying to not override, I was trying to not make mistakes, I was just riding the bike," Marquez explained.

"This was my main objective, to not make any mistakes, to be really smooth in every corner, that was my objective when I was leading.

"At one moment I thought I might have the opportunity to win the race if Marc was struggling with the front tyre. But he saved the rear tyre and when he overtook me I realised it was impossible."
