Arbolino replaces Fernandez at Elf Marc VDS

Tony Arbolino has landed arguably the plumest of Moto2 seats for 2022 and 2023 as he joins Sam Lowes in the Elf Marc VDS team.

The Italian, who graduated from Moto3 this season, will replace Augusto Fernandez, who is off to parts unknown.

“I’m really very happy to be part of this project. I think it’s a great opportunity to improve and keep moving forward in my career,” said the Milan rider.

“I chose this team precisely because I think it is one of the best in the category and the connection I felt was immediate. They wanted me and I wanted them, and this is something very important for me.

“I needed this change, and I am proud that Marc van der Straten and his team have trusted me to represent them. I will do my best to show my talent and I will work hard to get the best possible results.

“The goal will be to fight consistently with the fastest riders in the category and be battling for podiums and victories.”

The 21-year-old enjoyed a hugely successful four-year spell in Moto3 in which he scored six pole positions, 12 podiums and three victories, and last season he finished only four-points behind World Champion Albert Arenas in second overall.

Arbolino moved into the ultra-competitive Moto2 World Championship for 2021 and the Milanese rider is now looking forward to embarking on an exciting new chapter in his career with the team, who won the intermediate title in 2014, 2017 and 2019.
