Augusto Fernandez is adamant that he will be racing in MotoGP next season after being let go by KTM.
After being let go by KTM for the 2025 MotoGP season Augusto Fernandez has been on the hunt for a ride. However, Fernandez has remained adamant that he will be in MotoGP next season.
There had been rumours that Fernandez would go to Yamaha next season. But it does not seem that the Spaniard will be riding full-time for the Pramac Yamaha squad, but instead as a Yamaha MotoGP Test Rider.
Fernandez could also have moved to the World Superbike Championship to continue racing full-time. However, Fernandez did dismiss these rumours: "I admire the Superbike World Championship. But I will not compete there next year. The MotoGP issue is not over yet."
Recently at the Austrian Grand Prix Fernandez added more fuel to the fire around him being the Yamaha MotoGP Test rider in 2025.
"It is certain that I will be racing MotoGP again in 2025," Fernandez said at the Red Bull Ring. "However, I will not be part of the permanent star line-up."
Fernandez's latest statements have backed up what Massimo Meregalli, Yamaha Sportings Director, told Motorsport.com.
Meregalli said: "We want to strengthen the test team and sign a rider, but we are not thinking about a veteran or a retired rider.
"We want a young man who wants to do a lot of laps and we can make the most of the testing that the concessions allow us. That does not mean that we will not have Crutchlow, who will continue to be part of the team and will return to action when he recovers.”
