'Austria was possibly the toughest weekend of the year' for Pedro Acosta

Gold and Goose

Pedro Acosta had his toughest weekend of the season in Austria but wants to turn it around at Aragon.

2024 saw the arrival of the highly appraised MotoGP rookie Pedro Acosta. The Spanish rider spent one year in Moto3 and two years in Moto2 and after winning both Championships made his way to MotoGP.

There had been huge expectations being placed on Acosta's young shoulders in MotoGP as he joined the GASGAS Tech3 MotoGP Team. Acosta started his MotoGP career by meeting these expectations. The 20-year-old stood on the podium twice in the opening three races and made MotoGP look easy.

However, as the season progressed Acosta's rookie status has crept in. Acosta arrived at KTMs home round in Austria looking forward to the weekend. But the Red Bull Ring ended up being a disaster for the Spaniard.

The #31 crashed multiple times in Practice and destroyed his KTM RC16. Acosta finished 10th in the Sprint Race and then 13th in the main race at the Red Bull Ring. But Acosta now returns home for the Aragon Grand Prix and he is hoping to put the Austrian Grand Prix behind him.

"The third home race is coming up and we will need to see how we are on Friday in the first session," Acosta said.

"Austria was possibly the toughest weekend of the year and Thursday's work in the box will increase more than usual.

"I spent two days in Misano training and it was good to keep improving my feelings. The good thing about MotorLand is that I know the track well from having trained there several days during the year, which will help us. I hope to improve on last weekend, and start a busy September in the best possible way."
