Ducati boss outlines limits on future MotoGP salaries

Ducati MotoGP sporting director Paolo Ciabatti has outlined future salaries in the blue riband class and numbers going forward will not be of the telephone variety.

Ciabatti has five factory contracts to juggle for 2021 and beyond, and with the financial chaos brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, wages will be cut and deals done by next month.

"There is no limit, but I don't think we can go beyond mid-June. We thought about waiting a few races before deciding which direction to go. Unfortunately the situation is a little different," said Ciabatti.

"We must go ahead without being able to make the appropriate evaluations. We are not surprised that Suzuki has already announced Mir, after Rins, while we are mainly looking at our five currently under contract drivers.

"The most logical choice would be to continue with the drivers we have. Davide Tardozzi and Gigi Dall'Igna also confirmed that the choice must be made within our drivers.

"However, we will have to deal with very different financial resources, we will have to make wise decisions that are compatible with the budget.

"The story with Andrea is a success story, but you can't think of past contracts. The objective is to reason with the current pilots, but in different numbers."
