The MotoGP stewards have given out their first penalty of the 2025 season at the opening Grand Prix.
Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team rider, Franco Morbidelli has been given a penalty for the Thai Grand Prix.
The Italian rider blocked Francesco Bagnaia, who was on a fast lap, at the end of Friday afternoon's Practice session. The incident occurred at Turn Five as the two-time MotoGP World Champion was fighting for a Q2 lap time.
However, his efforts ended up going to waste after he found a cruising Morbidelli on the racing line. After the incident, Morbidelli was given a three-place grid penalty for Sunday's Grand Prix by the stewards.
Bagnaia will now have to participate in Q1 on Saturday morning to fight for a place in the top 12 on the grid for the opening Grand Prix of the year.
Somkiat Chantra has also received a penalty:
LCR Honda rider, and MotoGP Rookie, Somkiat Chantra has also been given a three-place grid penalty for his home Grand Prix. The Thai rider has been sanctioned for riding too slowly on the racing line.
