Franco Morbidelli showed his talent at the Austrian Grand Prix as he came back from a collision at the start of the race.
At the Austrian Grand Prix, Franco Morbidelli qualified in eighth place and showed strong race pace across the weekend. However, at Turn One Morbidelli was involved in a collision with Marc Marquez and dropped back to 17th.
Morbidelli managed to make his way through the order and crossed the line in eighth place. The Italian now sits 12th in the standings with 73 points, tied with Marco Bezzecchi in 11th.
Morbidelli entered Pramac at the start of the 2024 season, but it has not been an easy year for the Italian. Before preseason testing even began Morbidelli suffered major injuries after a crash at Portimao. Due to his injuries, the 29-year-old was unable to take part in MotoGP preseason testing and began the year on the back foot.
After the Austrian Grand Prix Prima Pramac Team Manager, Gino Borsoi, spoke to SPEEDWEEK.com about Morbidelli's performances in 2024.
Borsoi said: "Personally, I am very happy with the progress that Morbido is making - after his crash in Portimão he really had a problem and there was a moment when everyone thought he would not be able to continue racing.
"Many people think 'fifth, sixth or seventh place is nothing'. But the level is so high and the bikes are at such a level today that a top-ten finish deserves great respect. Especially when you know where Morbidelli started, you have to give him great respect because only a few would have managed that."
At the Austrian Grand Prix Morbidelli also announced his plans for the 2025 MotoGP season. The VR46 Academy rider will ride for the VR46 MotoGP Team for the first time in his career.
