Herrera heads all-female Moto3 team for Aragon wildcard

Angeluss and Maria Herrera will present a fully supported and all-female Moto3 team at the AragonGP in September.

The ambitious project launched by Angeluss and its creator, Aurora Angelucci, which aims to promote the presence of women in motorcycling and contribute to reducing the sector’s gender gap, now officially takes off with a very important first initiative on track.

Spanish rider Maria Herrera will compete on the Angeluss MTA KTM for a wildcard showing at the Aragon round of the Moto3 World Championship, set to take place on 18 September, and for the first time in world championship history, Herrera will be supported in the garage and on pit lane by an all-female team.

Herrera, who currently competes in the MotoE World Championship with Aspar, already boasts significant experience in the leightweight class, having completed three full seasons and finished inside the points on eight occasions. While already familiar with the KTM, the 25-year-old will undertake a test at the Alcaniz venue ahead of the round 15 appearance.

“I’m very happy to be a part of this project and to have the opportunity to compete as a wildcard in Moto3 this year with a fully female team,” Herrera confirmed. “I think the main goal of the Angeluss team is to help future riders and I can help pave the way, just as I’ve been doing for several years already.

“I was quick to accept this opportunity, as giving visibility to a 100 per cent female team is an initiative that immediately caught my attention. It will be an amazing experience, during which I will also be able to relive my former Moto3 days.”

“We are very pleased to be preparing to compete with an all-female team just a few months after launching Angeluss, as this proves just how deeply we believe in, and are invested in, our project,’ CEO Aurora Angelucci added. “We are proud to do so with a very talented rider like María Herrera, who has raced at world level in various categories - Moto3, Supersport and now MotoE.

“A fighter on track and a positive and cheerful individual, María is a rider who truly represents us. In order to support her on track, we have identified a number of technical experts, women who are used to the fast-paced world of racing, and we will make our final selection in the coming weeks.

“We know that time is very tight before the test we have planned and the race weekend, and so collaborating with the Angeluss MTA Team will be important for our squad. This wildcard marks a first real step in the operational implementation of the structure we are building and along a pathway that is only just beginning, and affords us the opportunity to send a clear message as to our values. Angeluss is ready to take flight.”
