Marc Marquez has spoken about his move to the factory Ducati squad and his first test with his new bike.
At a recent Estrella Galicia 0,0 event, Marc Marquez was discussing his time at Ducati and moving into the factory team.
After only one year in the Gresini Racing MotoGP team in 2024 the Spaniard will move into the Ducati Lenovo Team in 2025.
Marquez has had one day in the factory Ducati garage so far at the Barcelona Test after the 2024 season finale. During the one-day test, Marquez upgraded his Ducati GP23 from the 2024 season to the new GP25 that he will ride next year.
"90% of the time I was trying out the GP25," Marquez stated. "Because in that test, the technicians had to choose a path for next year, as to how to evolve the bike. The positive is that both Pecco [Bagnaia] and I, had the same comments, problems and advantages.
"Of course, from the GP23 to the GP24 there was a step. From the GP24 to the GP25, it's different. When you hit the track on a new bike, it is difficult for it to be better in the first laps compared to a bike that you have been racing for a year."
'The guy who has the leading voice now is Pecco.'
Marquez arrives at the factory Ducati garage as the number two rider in the pecking order. The eight-time World Champion knows that his new teammate, Francesco Bagnaia, will take priority.
"This is a situation I have never been in before," Marquez explained. "To arrive in a box, it's not that there's a one-two organisation inside a box, but there is a status in it.
"The guy who has the leading voice now is Pecco because he gave two World Championship titles to Ducati, and he won 11 races last year. Logically, it has to be him who leads in pre-season and in these first races."
'I'm in the best team with the best bike... it's all in my hands now.'
Marquez has won six MotoGP World Championships in the past, but he has not won a title since 2019. However, the 31-year-old is now in the best team on the best bike so has his best chance since his career-changing injury in 2020 to claim a ninth World Championship.
"I'm in the best team with the best bike, and my future teammate has won two Championships and this year, fought until the last race with Jorge [Martin] and lost by 10 points. I have all the tools to fight for a title, it's all in my hands now."
