Alex Marquez has struggled in recent weeks but two fourth places in Malaysia rebuilt the Spaniard's confidence.
Across the MotoGP flyaways, Alex Marquez has struggled for results on his Ducati GP23. However, at the Malaysian Grand Prix, the final flyaway of 2024, Marquez claimed his best result since the German Grand Prix.
The Spaniard qualified for the Malaysian Grand Prix in third place, on the edge of the front row. He then went on to finish the Sprint Race and Grand Prix in fourth place for Gresini Racing.
"It is like a second home race," Marquez joked after the Malaysian Grand Prix. "Like in Aragon, I can be really, really fast here, especially on a MotoGP bike. I love this track and for me, it is super easy to find the limit here and to always be on the limit.
"So, it was a good race, my two starts were not fantastic, this is the thing we need to improve on for the future. We did a really good job, despite the start not being a good one, later on.
"I said to myself 'Ok this is a really long race, we need to not make mistakes, we need to manage the tyres.' We coped really well and in the end, we got P4. I had Enea (Bastianini) there and he was struggling a bit and Pedro (Acosta) was pushing me. So, it was a nice battle there, a psychological one, but P4 is so important for us."
Marquez now finds himself in 10th in the MotoGP World Championship. The Spaniard is only six points behind Marco Bezzecchi and 10 points behind Fabio di Giannantonio. With one round left of the 2024 MotoGP World Championship Marquez could jump both riders in the standings.
