Before the 2024 season had even begun Fermin Aldeguer put pen to paper on a Ducati contract for 2025. However, despite having a four-year deal with the Italian manufacturer Aldeguer was not tied down to a team.
Even though Gresini have not officially announced that Aldeguer will ride for them in 2025, it is all but confirmed through a process of elimination.
With both Factory Ducati rides taken and both the VR46 Ducati bikes taken it only leaves one Ducati open. Aldeguer will partner Alex Marquez next year in the Gresini team as he begins his MotoGP journey.
Aldeguer was asked by MotoGP.com about his move to Gresini at the Austrian Grand Prix. The 19-year-old was tight-lipped about the move he expressed his happiness about getting an opportunity in MotoGP.
"It is a secret that everyone knows," Aldeguer stated. "But I am happy about this, I can't say anything now but maybe soon. I am happy to be with this team and with this bike."
Gresini has been a stepping stone in recent years for riders to get into the Factory Ducati squad. In 2023 Enea Bastianini moved from Gresini to the Factory squad, and Marc Marquez will do the same in 2025. This is something Aldeguer mentioned to MotoGP.com, but he insists he is more focused on the current 2024 season.
"Many riders have been with this team and are now with the official team. The technical part is so good. But this is next year and I am focussed on this year because it is important."
Aldeguer's decision to sign a Ducati contract came at the right time. Throughout the 2024 season, he has struggled to adapt to the Pirelli tyres in Moto2. As it stands Aldeguer is fifth in the standings but has had an inconsistent year.
