Neil Hodgson believes that Jake Dixon will be a Moto2 title contender in 2025, but does not see him securing a MotoGP ride for 2026.
Despite the lack of British riders in the MotoGP paddock TNT Sports MotoGP pundit, Neil Hodgson believes that Jake Dixon will fight for the Moto2 World Championship.
Dixon is entering his seventh year in the Moto2 Championship and has joined his fourth different team. The British rider has switched from the CFMoto Aspar Team to the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team.
A change of team has also seen Dixon change machinery as he has switched from a Kalex chassis to a Boscocuro for the first time in his career.
During the Moto2 pre-season tests, Dixon was riding at lap record pace at Portimao and Jerez. This has led Hodgson to believe that Dixon will be a title contender.
However, he finds it 'disappointing' that the 29-year-old will most likely miss out on a MotoGP ride in 2026 even if he does fight for the title.
“Jake [Dixon is going to be really interesting because he is changing teams to the Marc VDS squad,” Hodgson told BSN.
“They are a really professional team, I know them all very well there. They are a well-funded team, they have the best of the best, and they always have because they have a decent budget.
“Spoke to him [Dixon] the other day and he was really happy, at the Portimao Test he was second fastest behind Canet. He said it was a shock at how much better his new team is than his old team.
“He was saying that he thought his old team was professional, but they [Marc VDS] are at another level. He is full of confidence and he likes his crew chief.
“I think Jake will definitely will races, I think he will fight for the title. What is annoying is he will fight for the title and not get a MotoGP ride. Which breaks all of our souls, another year without a Brit in MotoGP, disappointing.”
