Jerez MotoGP test: Dixon not taking 'any silly risks'

Britain's Jake Dixon erred on the side of caution during yesterday's Jerez Moto2 test, not taking any risks that could jeopardise a packed season.

The Petronas rider finished his day on a 1'43.455 which was a second off the pace of fastest man Jorge Martin and half a second slower than vastly-experienced team-mate Xavi Vierge.

"I actually felt quite good from the off, but I feel like we didn’t show everything today that we could have done," said Dixon.

"I’ve been a little bit more on the cautious side today because it’s a long season in a short space of time. I didn’t want to take any silly risks.

"We’ve got a plan and I feel like I can do a good job in these two Jerez races. I need to stay consistent and finish the races.

"I feel like I’ve got a good base setting and we’re just fine-tuning things now. The main thing is to do the team proud and I think I can do that this weekend."

Dixon opted to run with the Qatar setup as his base and use the day to tailor this to the Spanish circuit.

He spent the two sessions racking up the laps and reacquainting himself with his bike, instead of carrying out a series of flying laps.
