Now that it has been revealed that Marc Marquez will leave Repsol Honda all the talk has been around his replacement. Remaining Repsol Honda rider, Joan Mir, gave his opinion on what he wants from a team-mate.
At the moment Repsol Honda have only one contracted rider for the 2024 MotoGP season. This rider is the 26-year-old, Joan Mir. The Spaniard joined Repsol Honda at the start of the 2023 MotoGP season and has had a below par season.
So far Mir only has 24 points to his name and has only finished four Grand Prix races all season long. With no experienced Honda rider alongside him for the 2024 season Mir has his sights set on what he wants from his new team-mate.
“If it's about what would help, then it's experience,” replied Joan Mir. “I believe that experience and a breath of fresh air will always help this project in the current situation.
"To be honest, I never know how to answer this question, because the other rider doesn't concern me. It's true though, if you want to be selfish, you want a fast driver with experience because then he can help me get faster. That's what I expect."
There have been lots of names thrown around as for who will partner Mir next season including Fabio Di Giannantonio, Fermin Aldeguer and Luca Marini. Yet no name is set in stone to be the second rider at Repsol Honda next season.
