Repsol Honda has confirmed Luca Marini will replace Marc Marquez in the official HRC factory team for the 2024 MotoGP World Championship.
The Italian - brother of nine-time MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi - got the nod over a number of candidates rumoured to be in the running, in so doing departing his sibling’s VR46 Racing team.
Joining Joan Mir in the Spanish-based squad, Marini takes on the seat vacated by Marquez, who switches to Gresini Ducati for next season.
Speaking prior to the deal being announced, Marini said: “I thought a lot before making this decision and evaluated the new challenges I will face.
“I leave behind a fantastic Team that contributed to my growth and knowledge of the technical aspects and complexity that characterise this kind sport.
“It's time to embrace a new path with enthusiasm, without denying what has been, but with the eyes focused on the future.”
