Marc Marquez kicks off his 2025 MotoGP season with a 'perfect Saturday' in Thailand.
The opening round of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship has seen Marc Marquez shoot into the headlines.
The eight-time World Champion is back to his best as he dominated proceedings on Saturday at the Thai Grand Prix. Marquez took pole position in the morning before taking victory in the Sprint Race in the afternoon.
"I am super happy to start my journey with Ducati Lenovo in that way," Marquez told MotoGP.com.
"It was a perfect Saturday, pole position, that was one of my weak points last year, it looks like I am feeling better, but I want to wait about this.
"I have the speed and I managed the Sprint Race well, to finish a perfect Saturday I shared a podium, 1st and 2nd, with Alex [Marquez]. It was a Sprint, but we did it, so I am happy.
"But tomorrow is the most important, so I am fully focussed on that."
The heat has been an issue throughout the weekend and Marquez expects it to play a factor on Sunday. He believes that managing the race will be the key if he wants to win the Thai Grand Prix.
"They were super extreme conditions and it will be something that we have to manage well tomorrow," he said.
"Apart from that we will try to start in a good way and try to understand the limit of the track. It is super difficult to understand with the warm temperature. Managing the race will be the key point."
Marquez's victory also put him on top of the Championship for the first time since 2019. When he was told about this he was happy, but also realistic as there are 43 more races to go.
"It is only the first race, but already we have that red plate," Marquez stated.
"We are leading the Championship, so I am happy, it is better to start in a good way. I have the speed and we will try to manage all the situations and this will be very important.
"I am too fast and I exaggerate at some points, so I need to focus on myself to control my instincts."
