Michael Laverty unsure of MotoGP future

Michael Laverty is waiting on a phone call from Aprilia to see whether he will continue as a MotoGP rider for the remainder of 2015 after making his debut with the Gresini-run team at the Sachsenring.

The almost-Welshman got a late call up to ride in Germany after the team parted company with Marco Melandri and Laverty says he was pleased if a little frustrated with his results in Saxony.

“It was enjoyable but somewhat frustrating as I didn’t get to where I thought I could race and I didn’t go as fast as I went on the PBM bike last year but we lost time in FP2 and I just needed more time on the bike,” said Laverty, speaking to bikesportnews.com.

“The whole experience was good, it is the first time I have worked with a full factory team and I think they were happy and realistic about what we could achieve in such a short time frame.

“I used my number two bike in warm-up and the race and we had a lot less chatter, so we need to investigate why that was. I think with a bit more time I could get there. I don’t yet know what Aprilia’s plans are going forward and whether they will want me to ride at Indy or not.

“I think this week they are having some meetings with Piaggio bosses as to what they want to do and how to go forward. It’s still all to be decided.”
