David Alonso arrives in Barcelona for this weekend's Moto3 Catalunya Grand Prix off the back of his third win of the year at the Moto3 French Grand Prix. He is one point behind championship leader Dani Holgado.

Qualifying

Ivan Ortola ended David Alonso's run of pole positions by taking it for himself in Barcelona. The Spaniard was 0.6 seconds behind Alonso's lap record from the morning, but executed his lap to take his first pole of the year.

Where Ortola nailed his session, the Colombian's was comparatively scrappy. His first run never really played out how he would have wanted it to, even being interrupted on his best lap by Ortola himself as the #48 entered the pits. Then, he was late entering the pits, and leaving behind everyone else put him at risk of losing laps to yellow flags - which he did, when Dani Holgado crashed on his final lap at turn 10.

Alonso ended up sixth, behind Collin Veijer and Jose Antonio Rueda on the front row, and Taiyo Furusato and Ryusei Yamanaka on row two. Furusato picked himself up a double long lap penalty in P2 for riding slowly on the racing line.

Behind Alonso, Jacob Roulstone was seventh, David Munoz eighth, Adrian Fernandez ninth, and Dani Holgado 10th. Luca Lunetta and Stefano Nepa round out the fourth row.

Roulstone's best lap was cancelled, and qualified 16th as a result, moving Holgado up to the back of row three and Matteo Bertelle onto row four.

P2

David Alonso was fastest once again in Moto3 P2 at the Catalan Grand Prix. Fastest by 0.670 from Jose Antonio Rueda, Alonso had lost the title of Moto3 lap record holder at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya to the #99, but reclaimed it about 30 seconds after Rueda set his 1:46.781.

Rueda was just over a tenth ahead of Ivan Ortola, and Collin Veijer was the last rider to lap under 1:47.

Riccardo Rossi was fifth, ahead of Stefano Nepa, Taiyo Furusato, Adrian Fernandez, Joel Kelso, and Angel Piqueras who rounded out the top 10.

Joel Esteban was 11th, ahead of Ryusei Yamanaka, David Almansa, and Luca Lunetta , but Lunetta misses Q2 directly because Dani Holgado - 22nd in P2 - makes the top 14 in the combined practice times on his P1 time.

Almansa was involved in an incident at the end of the session which saw him make contact with Xabi Zurutuza which resulted in both riders falling. Zurutuza finished the session in 21st.

P1

David Alonso was fastest yet again in Moto3 P1 at Barcelona, but there was no new lap record this time, the Colombian's 1:46.897 just over a tenth slower than his 1:46.737 from the morning's Free Practice session.

Jose Antonio Rueda was second-fastest, but was unable to join Alonso in the 1:46s, meaning the #80 was the only rider to lap in under 1:47 all day.

Championship leader Dani Holgado was third-fastest, ahead of Collin Veijer, Ivan Ortola, and the SIC58 duo of Filippo Farioli and Luca Lunetta was sixth and seventh, respectively. Jacob Roulstone was eighth, ahead of Stefano Nepa and Nicola Carraro who completed the top 10. Taking the final four provisional Q2 spots for tomorrow are Taiyo Furusato, Joel Esteban, David Munoz, and Joel Kelso.

FP

David Alonso broke yet another lap record in the opening session of the weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, and was the only rider to lap in the 1:46s. He was almost exactly 0.4 seconds clear of Ivan Ortola, while Jose Antonio Rueda was third.

Ryusei Yamanaka was fourth, ahead of Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix winner Collin Veijer, and Joel Esteban in sixth.

Seventh-fastest was Riccardo Rossi, ahead of Taiyo Furusato, David Munoz, and Scott Ogden - Furusato and Ogden the only Hondas in the top 10.
