MotoGP Aragon: Biaggi blasts Moto3 pitlane clash ‘unacceptable’

A bizarre and dangerous pitlane clash occurred during Moto3 qualifying at Motorland Aragon on Saturday afternoon.

The incident involving Red Bull KTM Tech3’s Adrian Fernandez saw the Spaniard allegedly prevented from leaving his garage by two members of the Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max Racing Team, as their own rider, Ayumu Sasaki, headed out for Q2. Sasaki claimed a front row start for Sunday’s 19-lap race with Fernandez missing the group and lining up in 15th.

Tech3 instantly branded the situation ‘unacceptable’ as the video was shared on social media with replies, both from the Sterilgarda account and team boss Max Biaggi himself, seemingly in agreement

“Unacceptable behaviour!” Biaggi wrote. “We publicly apologise to the Tech3 Racing Team and Adrian Fernandez.

“An unsolicited, dangerous action that cannot be justified in any way by our code of ethics! Those responsible will be appropriately punished.”

A two-race ban and individual fine was later handed down by the FIM MotoGP Stewards.

“Two members of the Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max team were found to be interfering and making contact with the bike and rider of another team in an aggressive and dangerous manner as that rider was leaving the pit box in Moto3 Q2,” a statement read.

“Both team members have been fined €2000, and they have each been disqualified from taking part in the Animoca Brands Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix AND the Petronas Grand Prix of Malaysia.

“It would not be possible to replace the team members in question for the next two races due to immigration and travel restrictions for upcoming rounds, which could potentially cause a safety concern for their rider. This two-race ban has therefore been deferred to apply to the Australian and Malaysian Grands Prix.”
