MotoGP Aragon: Drying track sees Rossi top third practice

Overnight rain at Motorland Aragon saw the third MotoGP free practice session not come alive until ten minutes were left on the clock and Valentino Rossi set the fastest time with a 1'50.464 to lead Alvaro Bautista by half a second.

Even through the Moto3 class had been out before, most of the MotoGP men stayed in their garages, save for Kardion AB's Luca Scassa who used the empty track to get more experience of the carbon brakes and Bridgestone tyres on which he is riding for the first time this weekend.

As the clock ticked down, Rossi followed Andrea Dovizioso down pitlane while Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa sat in their garages. The former did appear with one minute left simply to complete a practice start right next to Marquez, while Pedrosa remained in his chair sporting a face like a smacked arse.

The track didn't dry enough for any meaningful times to be set so Bradley Smith, who fell foul of a new running-on rule and was halted by a marshal only for his Monster Yamaha to stall, will be forced into qualifying one this afternoon, alongside Andrea Iannone, to fight for a qualfifying two spot.
