Britain’s Sam Lowes bagged a second-row start for tomorrow’s Aragon Moto2 race despite a mid-session crash through the last corner as reigning world champion Tito Rabat went under the existing lap record to take pole position with championship leader Johann Zarco finished third.
Lowes lost the front of his Speed Up as he turned into the second apex of turn 17 and had to watch as he slipped down the order from fourth to tenth but a 1’52.672, set even though Axel Pons crashed in front of him, was enough to bounce back to the top of row two.
Rabat’s best of a 1’52.232 was a the business end of a second quicker than Marc Marquez’ record but he was chased hard by series rookie Alex Rins who was 0.035s behind the Marc VDS man. Taka Nakagami is next to Lowes on the second row while Alex Marquez bagged his first second-row start in the class in sixth.
