MotoGP Argentina: Podium battle in sight for Dixon, ‘only a matter of time’

Autosolar GASGAS Aspar’s Jake Dixon rewarded a fightback through the top ten with a fifth place finish in the Moto2 Argentina GP.

Having started fifth on the grid, alongside teammate Albert Arenas, Dixon initially lost track position as the 23-lap race kicked off. Finding himself regrouping from eighth on lap two, he enjoyed a comfortable mid-race run in sixth before he began the hunt for more. Late-race pace allowed the Brit to advance in the final three laps, with the podium fight in his sights as the flag prepared. Unfortunately he ran out of time and was forced to settle as he started, with a fifth place finish earming him eleven championship points.

“The race is done here in Argentina and it was quite a difficult one to be honest,” Dixon explained from Argentina. “I made a mistake and lost two seconds on the first lap, and then I battled back from a long way to finish fifth.

“I caught up to the top three podium battle in the last corner. Another couple of laps and I think I could have done even more.

“It’s all getting closer now in terms of our performance and I think it’s only a matter of time now before we can be up where we want to be.”
