Britain’s Sam Lowes will start tomorrow’s Moto2 race at the Argentine MotoGP round from the second row of the grid after title rival Johann Zarco set the fastest ever lap of the Rio Honda circuit to take pole.
Lowes has been right on the pace during free practice but Zarco wound up his his Ajo Kalex to put in a 1’42.809 and lead reigning champion Tito Rabat by almost three-tenths of the second.
Rabat completed a total of 24 laps and his last of 1’43.102 was enough for second but the Spaniard is struggling with the last sector, particularly the last long right hander.
Swiss Thomas Luthi completed the front row with Lowes heading up row two. The Speed Up rider also looked to be not so comfortable in the last sector and also made a couple of errors dealing with traffic on his last quick lap.
