Gresini Racing’s Enea Bastianini managed to set the fastest lap of the Moto3 qualifying session before the rain fell in Assen, and timed it perfectly to take pole position this afternoon.
It is his first pole of the year, and he went one tenth quicker than Sky Racing’s Andrea Migno who shares the front row along side his team-mate, Nicolo Bulega. The young circuit rookie has signed a two year contract extension with the Sky Racing team and this afternoon bagged his second front row start of the season.
Romano Fenati made it a Sky Racing two, three, four on the starting grid with the trio all lapping inside the 1’42.5’s, with Fenati just missing out on a top three start by seven tenths of a second.
Championship leader, Red Bull KTM’s Brad Binder finds himself on the second row and will start the race tomorrow in P5, and is sandwiched between Fenati and Guevara on row two, with the South African 0.2s off the pace of pole man, Bastianini.
Scotland’s John McPhee will start from 21st on the grid, with Isle of Man TT racer Danny Webb making his return to the Moto3 paddock by starting the race from 32nd place on Sunday.
