MotoGP Assen: Redding mystified by lack of pace

Britain’s Scott Redding is mystified by his lack of pace on the first day of MotoGP free practice at Assen but at least knows in which sectors he is losing time at the Dutch track.

The Estrella Gallicia Marc VDS man ended the day in 14th place on combined times with a 1’34.643 - more than a second slower than Dani Pedrosa, who is on an almost identical RC213V but set the outright lap record in free practice two.

Redding is using the setup he left Barcelona with which was good enough for seventh place and crew chief Chris Pike said they are still trying to get the bike to fit Redding’s 6ft2in frame better.

“I don’t really know why we weren’t higher up the order because my feeling with the bike is pretty good, but the lap time doesn’t reflect that. It feels like the lap time should be there but it’s not,” said Redding.

“We had a bit of chatter in a couple of corners but that’s not the issue. It doesn’t feel bad in many areas. I’m losing a lot in the first sector and I don’t know why, but at least we know where to look to find the time.”
