MotoGP Assen: Second row start for Lowes as Luthi takes Moto2 pole

Garage Plus Interwetten's Thomas Luthi will start the Moto2 race tomorrow from pole position and set the fastest lap in qualifying, before rain heavily fell out on to the circuit.

A 1'37.954 on his fifth lap, on slick tyres, was more than good enough to go P1. But then no other rider was able to better the time set by the Swiss racer as the rain clouds appeared overhead and the riders retreated to the pits to take cover from the rain shower with over ten minutes remaining in the session. The weather did ease somewhat towards the end of the qualifying outing, but not enough to dry up the track.

Current Moto2 champion, Johann Zarco had already done enough to make it on to the front row, missing out on pole by 0.5 seconds. Dominic Aegerter put down a 1'38.449 which meant that he makes it on to the front row for the first time this year.

The former World Supersport champion, Sam Lowes was only 0.05 seconds off a place on row one. The Englishman will have to fight it out from P4 and is joined by Morbidelli and Nakagami on the second row.

Cortese, Rins, Folger and Baldassarri complete the top ten, with Moto3 champion, Danny Kent making it on to the P18 spot after a 1'39.663 rotation.
