MOTOGP ASSEN: SMITH LEADS THE BRITS IN FIRST PRACTICE

Bancaja Aprilia's Bradley Smith is the leading British rider after today's first 125GP free practice at Assen's MotoGP round this morning, setting the fourth quickest time.

Smith's 1'47.113 lap was a half a second slower than fastest man and team-mate Julian Simon, who set his quickest time on his last lap, posting a 1'46.725 which demoted the third Bancaja Aprilia of Sergio Gadea to second.

De Graaf Aprilia's Danny Webb was sitting in third with four minutes to go but was knocked down to fifth as his 1'37.277 lap was nudged downwards. The teenager is still in a bit of pain after his crash in practice at Barcelona.

It wasn't a good session for Blusens Aprilia man Scott Redding who only managed to put in ten laps and finished his first practice in 20th place with a lap of 1'49.180, two and a half seconds off the pace.
