Britain’s Sam Lowes will start tomorrow’s Moto2 race from the front row as title rival Alex Rins bagged pole position at the Austin MotoGP round.
Lowes set a 2’09.100 with his final lap of the session after a red flag for a crash from Efren Vasquez and looked safe in second place behind the Pons rider but reigning champion and Argentina race winner Johann Zarco had other ideas and stuck in a 2’09.066 to snatch second.
Rins holds a two-tenths advantage after setting his best time of a 2’08.850 on only his fourth lap which was never bettered. Swiss Dominique Aegerter rushed into fourth just as the chequered flag came out with countryman Thomas Luthi taking fifth with a three-tenth deficit.
