Fiat Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo has stated he needs to win the next three MotoGP races, starting this weekend at Phillip Island, in order to close the points gap and wrest the title from team-mate Valentino Rossi.

Lorenzo won last time out in Estoril while The Doctor was only able to finish fourth after a massive lack of rear grip saw him lapping slower than fifth-placed man Colin Edwards on the privateer Monster Yamaha. Lorenzo, however, says that three race wins is what it will take.

“After my victory at Estoril I have a bit more of a chance to fight for the title as there is a big difference between being 18 points behind and 30 behind. But there are only three races to go and I think to win the title I will need to win these three races," said the Spaniard.
