Yamaha's Ben Spies will not race for the Japanese manufacturer again this year after undergoing surgery in America for torn ligaments in his right shoulder necessitating a ten-week layoff.
The former World Superbike Champion went under the knife to repair coracoclavicular ligaments torn in the crash and a reduction of a separated acrimioclavicular joint, aided by a twin-tightrope device, which is a suture based system. Cadavar tissue was placed to replace and reinforce the coracoclavicular ligaments that were torn.
The expected recovery time also means he will miss the Valencia test and his first opportunity to ride the Ducati he is to campaign next season. Yamaha will announce their replacement rider at the weekend.
