MotoGP Austria: ‘I had to try or I wouldn't sleep’ - Martin

Jorge Martin had his sights set on the Spielberg MotoGP podium on Sunday before a last lap move on fellow Ducati man Jack Miller left him sliding through the gravel.

The Prima Pramac rider managed to collect his GP22 and rejoin the action to cross the line in tenth position, but the results would not reflect the potential previously on show throughout the 28-lap Austrian GP.

“Was a pity that today we missed the podium but you know I had to try because I was competitive and I was super fast,” Martin said of his turn one move on the Australian for third. “But in general, overall I am quite happy about the weekend, we were all the practices in top four and in the race I was super consistent. I could recover this gap of 1.7s that I lost in the shortcut so I'm happy. For sure we missed the podium and I crashed but anyway, we are fast and we are competitive for the next races and this is important.

“It was the only point that I could overtake because I was better than him,” he continued on the unsuccessful attempt. “It wasn't so risky but you know we are all on the limit the last lap, the tyres are already a bit also on the limit.

“I crashed but I was feeling strong in that point and I had to try, if not I wouldn't sleep tonight.

“So now I'm more relaxed, it is what it is but I demonstrated my performance and this is the important thing.”
