Sterilgarda Husqvarna Max’s John McPhee secured a top ten at the Moto3 Austrian GP after a strong fightback on Sunday at Spielberg.
Starting from 18th on the lightweight grid after missing his chance in Saturday’s qualifying, McPhee had gained four positions by the end of the first lap. Five laps later, however, he had work to do again after slipping to 20th but after digging deep the comeback began. Late-race pace, the fifth fastest lap and strong overtakes saw the Scot met the flag in ninth position.
“My pace was decent,” McPhee reflected on Sunday evening from the Red Bull Ring. “I had good rhythm as soon as I could break the group but I struggled to overtake and was pretty vulnerable going into the corners. I had to line-up the exits.
“I finally got my head down but missed a few more laps to make the front group. I dug-deep today and pushed 100 per cent but missed a bit. We have work to do but I’m sure the results will come.”
